We all have to clean our homes, whether we rent or we own our home. That being said, how can you make sure that you save money on the process? Are there options that you can consider that won’t cost you a ton of cash in the long run/ Here are some tips.
Dish soap is your friend. Dish soap is one of the best multi-purpose cleaners out there. Did you know that dish soap also can do the following?
- Get out carpet stains (yes, even the stains on your vintage area rugs) and clothing stains
- Wash your windows (diluted, of course)
- Clean your bathtub (mix with vinegar for best results)
Go generic! Buying generic brands can save you a couple of hundred dollars a year. Now yes, in rare cases, the generic won’t work as well. Most times, though, these are made in the same places that your name brand items are, and thus that extra 50 cents you’re paying is basically for the name. So save yourself some money and get the store brand instead.
Make Your Own Cleaners. Many “green” and “eco-friendly” websites encourage making your own alternatives to popular cleaning products, and most times, the ingredients are cheaper too. Just search “make your own household cleaners” and you will have more recipes than you will know what to do with!
Clip those Coupons. If you absolutely must use certain cleaners (due to allergies or sensitivities, or if you’re just picky), then be smart about it. Look for good deals in your local paper or online.
We all have to clean to stay healthy, and if you can reduce those costs as much as possible by doing a couple of lifestyle changes, you’ll only have to break your back and not your bank to do so!
